Simpson – Minnesota

Simpson sent us a pretty dope track that he created to pay homage to his hometown, Minneapolis. The track features the artist BK, who adds his own thoughts about the twin cities. Let’s get right into it.

Simpson is a 17 year old rapper/producer based out of the twin cities. He’s currently finishing off his junior year in highschool and has been making music seriously for about 3 years. He heard about Bind Magazine from a post that a local artist retweeted. In his submission he said, “I come to you today as a stand-alone artist who understands that there are millions of kids who download beats from YouTube and write a half-assed song that will get no plays who are sending copy and pasted spam submissions to every blog and magazine they see, but I set myself apart in that I do everything myself and try my hardest because I know that I am young and many people overlook me, rightfully so.”

The song he submitted is about where he’s from—Minnesota. He made and mixed the beat and featured another Minnesota native, Brendon Kelly for the second verse. The artwork, done by Joe Mendes, is a cold white background with a white hoodie and pair of shorts as a reference to part of the hook—”You can’t rock shorts and a hoodie at the same fuckin’ time like we do in Minnesota!” In less than 6 months, he’s reached almost 18,000 plays with no promotion from any outside source. The song features many lyrics and references that Minnesotan’s and other northerners are familiar with. Help Simpson get this track some more plays outside of his city! Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
